FT3 Project
Project PINK BLUE is changing the way Africans think about cancer.
Patient engagement in care and treatment and precision medicine (PM) education in oncology are some of the biggest challenges facing low-resource countries in Nigeria. In partnership with From Testing to Targeted Treatments (FT3), Project PINK BLUE Co-created some amazing educational materials on Questions Patients Can Ask Your Healthcare Professionals” and other materials on biomarkers and targeted therapy. Our team reviewed the materials. From Testing to Targeted Treatments (FT3) supported Project PINK BLUE to pilot FT3 adaptable resources in Nigeria. Hosting of the Focus Group Discussion, surveys, and a feedback meeting to evaluate and explore cancer patients’ thoughts about FT3 educational resources.
In Nigeria, the FT3 project engaged 71 cancer patients from Abuja, Lagos, and Enugu through focus group discussions (FGDs) and feedback meetings, surpassing the initial target of 60 participants from two regions (Abuja and Lagos). An additional 76 participants completed an online survey, providing insights into their awareness and experiences with precision medicine and targeted therapies.
Key findings revealed significant improvements in patient awareness (71.1%) and decision-making capabilities (80.3%) due to the FT3 educational resources. Over 90% of participants rated the materials highly for clarity and quality. Discussions highlighted the need for localized, simplified materials to reach a broader audience and address economic and systemic barriers.
